French dictionaries online are good as a reference, but in practical use, the sort of suck. Example, you are sitting in a restuarant, you need the word for pumpkin, but how do you find the word online?
There is no way to beat a paper dictionary, but a book is big, and 99 percent of people refuse to carry one.
The best dictionary does not need an Internet connection.
I use Systran, a computer program on my computer, it does not need a connection.
I also use Microsoft Encyclopedia, which translates the major languages.
